🔒 Require Practice Before Tests
Vocab Loco now lets teachers require students to pass practice activities before starting a test. This new practice gate gives teachers more control over how students progress through word list lessons.
🎯 Separate Settings for Vocabulary and Spelling Tests
When creating or editing a word list assignment, Step 3: Activities now includes two new settings within the test cards:
- Require ENABLED vocabulary practice before Vocabulary Test
- Require ENABLED spelling practice before Spelling Test
When a setting is turned ON, the corresponding test remains locked until the student passes all enabled practice activities of that type.
The two settings work independently. Teachers may enable one, both, or neither.
Both settings are OFF by default for new assignments and do not automatically change existing assignments.

🧑🎓 What Students See
When a student attempts to open a locked test, the student sees the message “Pass practice activities first” along with a list of the activities still needing to be passed.
The Go to Practice Activities button takes the student directly to the applicable activities.
As soon as all required activities are passed, the test unlocks automatically. No teacher action is needed.
🔓 Overriding the Practice Requirement
A teacher can make the test available before all required practice activities have been passed by:
- Turning off the practice requirement for that test.
- Disabling a practice activity that should no longer be required!
These changes take effect immediately and apply to the assignment.
